Bio and Platform: Luis Galvez is a Junior at the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in Secondary Education, History, and Theatre.

If elected, his goals for the year are as follows:

Create more student discounts across the Reno-Sparks area.
Program events at the UNR at Lake Tahoe campus.
Showcase, sponsor, and advocate for the arts.
Award interdisciplinary research.
Establish a presidency that adapts to, listens to, and serves every student.

Luis has been serving ASUN since April of 2022 as the Senator for the College of Education and Human Development. He spearheads a coalition to bridge the gap between the new UNR at Lake Tahoe campus (formerly Sierra Nevada University) and ASUN. Through hours of outreach with students and faculty on the Lake Tahoe campus, he was able to establish connections in which the student government of UNR is able to build a growing understanding of the needs of Lake Tahoe students. Currently, Luis is working to create a Lake Tahoe Affairs department within ASUN to preserve the legacy of Sierra Nevada University, and create opportunities for students from the main campus to enjoy event programming at Lake Tahoe.

As a proud Renoite, Luis’ number one goal is to connect the University with the city of Reno. A big part of this is creating student enthusiasm for local businesses. One of his hopes is to encourage student discounts across the Reno-Sparks area by expanding the Pack-Friendly Business program from 30 businesses to 150 businesses.

One of the biggest parts of Luis’ identity is being an artist. As an actor, musician, dancer, and writer, he wants to see more opportunities for Wolf Pack artists to showcase their works both on campus and across town. He hopes to create relationships with organizations such as The Holland Project, The Nevada Museum of Art, and Artown to foster connections between the students and the city.

Luis is committed to making productive, actionable, and tangible change that all students can see.
