Bio and Platform: Melanie Acevedo Perez is a first-generation Latina student in her third year pursuing a degree in Accounting. She was born and raised in Reno, graduating from North Valleys High School. Her compassion, attention to detail, and tenacity are what make her a suitable candidate. Melanie understands the difficulty of being a first-generation and believes her passion for bringing awareness to opportunities for those students will only strengthen the positive relationship between the University and the community.
Her goals if elected as Senator are to promote financial transparency to students to ensure that student fees are being properly used for undergraduates only for professional, personal, and academic development. Moreover, ensuring student safety on and off campus by extending communication to off campus student housing complexes. She would also like to emphasize the importance of expanding ASUN legal services to students for immigration and citizenship status business.
Melanie plans to achieve these goals by planning and implementing programs to bring visibility to students and communicating the wants and needs of the students in the college of business and representing them in a matter of unity.
