Nivetha Nithyanandan

Senator for the College of Science

Nivetha Nithyanandan is a second-year student from Las Vegas, Nevada. She is majoring in Biology and minoring in Graphic Design, and is a part of the Honors College. After completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to attend medical school to become a dermatologist. She currently serves as a Senator for the College of Science and sits on the Committee on Safety, Sustainability, and Wellness and the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs. Apart from school and her current Senator position, Nivetha spends time volunteering with Immunize Nevada, working in a research lab, and playing intramural volleyball.

Currently serving as a Senator for the 89th session, Nivetha has written pieces of legislation involving the promotion of using more free open educational resources in course instruction rather than expensive textbooks, and the implementation of a University Field House in the future. As the past two years have been mentally challenging for many students on campus and online, students have expressed concerns regarding course instruction and campus life. If elected for the 90th session, Nivetha hopes to continue the open educational resource campaign at the beginning of the fall semester, promote more engagement with the Honor’s College, and ease the transition for incoming freshman students.
