Know an Outstanding Professor? Check out this Service Learning Award!
Posted on Tuesday, February 11, 2020Good teachers help us further our education, but great teachers make sure we are active and involved in making an impact through our education. ASUN and the Office of Service-Learning and Community Engagement are proud to have created a $500 reward to honor an instructor on campus who has made a positive impact on students by incorporating service learning in their course.
Service-learning is an educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a practical and progressive learning experience while meeting societal needs. Here on our campus, many teachers use this as a way to give back to our local community outside the university. This may be through helping the homeless population, donating time to younger students in the Washoe County School District, tackling issues concerning the housing crisis, and much more.
The best part is that students are able to nominate an instructor they have had who they believe is deserving of this award. If you would like to nominate an instructor who has impacted your education, please make sure to nominate them for the recognition they deserve. To do so, you must provide a letter of recommendation that describes the impact of the service-learning course on your educational experience and why you appreciated this person for their efforts in developing the course. Once completed, please send your nomination to Alissa Mortensen at alissam@unr.edu. The deadline to submit a nomination is February 14. Recognizing instructors for their hard work is a great way to give back to those who have taught us so much!
