Anna Barrus is currently in her second year of her undergraduate career, majoring in Public Health/Human Development with a minor in Gerontology. At the end of her undergraduate career, she plans to continue her professional career at the University of Nevada, Reno's School of Medicine.
As a driven first-generation student coming from a low-income background, Barrus knows the importance of having representatives who understand what it means to struggle. Barrus finds student voice an invaluable portion of the association, which she chooses to highlight in her campaign “Better Nevada”, highlighting Advocacy, Representation and Drive.
Being a representative that students can relate to holds high importance in this campaign, as oftentimes students would need someone who is familiar with how certain policies and goals of the association can affect them first-hand. It can be parking, student fees or expenditures taken out of the Budget, Barrus plans to perform direct outreach in order to better represent the student body. It could be hearing your thoughts from tabling in the Knowledge Center, interacting on social media or at ASUN events!
As a student in the School of Public Health, Barrus plans building on the successes on campus and making sure students have access to various health initiatives and resources such as Pack Provisions, the Student Health Center and NevadaCARES to keep our student body healthy. Keeping students in mind when formulating her campaign is something Barrus holds true, and hopes to serve the students this upcoming session.
As one, we can all work towards a Better Nevada!
