Bio and Platform: Madison Atkinson is a student in the Speech Pathology and Audiology program at the University of Nevada, Reno, she is running for a Senate seat with the Associated Students of the University of Nevada to ensure that the voices and needs of students in allied health programs are heard and addressed. Her platform centers around three key policy goals that aim to improve the overall student experience, promote inclusivity, and advocate for resources that will help us thrive both academically and personally. First, she is committed to increasing access to academic and professional resources. Speech pathology and audiology students face unique challenges in their clinical training, coursework, and preparation for licensure. She will work to enhance mentorship programs, expand access to specialized resources, and ensure that students in these fields have the tools they need to succeed. Second, mental health and well-being are central to her platform. The demanding nature of healthcare professions can lead to stress and burnout, and she believe it is crucial to strengthen on-campus support services for all students. She will advocate for more mental health resources, including stress management workshops and counseling services. Third, she is passionate about working with all students and faculty members to continue the positive and wonderful nature that UNR has. Ensuring that students from all backgrounds feel supported is vital for creating an amazing experience for the students at University of Nevada, Reno. Meeting with students who have any concerns or questions is important to her, Madison wants to make sure all students feel heard and valued at UNR. Through these goals, she aims to represent all students, ensuring we have the support and resources we need to succeed.
