Bio and Platform: Brianna Scherschel is a first year Mathematics and Secondary Education major. She is a first-generation college student with a passion for student government and a love for math. Since she was in elementary school, over her school breaks she would ask her dad to print off math worksheets for fun and even earned a superlative in student council for “being the most likely to make a reference to calculus”. Brianna has been a student council kid since elementary school holding many different positions and became an ASUN intern this past semester. She took the opportunity to learn about all branches and decided to focus herself on becoming a senator by attending multiple senate hearings and reaching out to current senators.
Brianna has always believed that math is the language of science and as a mathematics major she aims to be the voice for The College of Science students. She also strongly believes in making sure that women feel they have a place within STEM fields to express their needs and concerns.
The College of Science is one of the two least politically active colleges on campus. Brianna finds it to be incredibly important to help educate students on the current political climate affecting them as well as their ability to get an education and do research.
Brianna strives for communication and community within the college and the campus. To create community, students need to know where to find it and she wants to help students find each other and support the process of them creating their own communities. She believes that UNR is at its best when all the students are looking out for each other and creating meaningful relationships, because when students feel supported by each other, they can better support their campus.
