Bio and Platform: Mikayla is a second year, first-generation student at UNR studying Psychology and Criminal Justice. Mikayla is running for Senate to help bridge the gap between student government and the students it represents. As a woman in STEM and a student who had an extremely unique educational route, she understands what it is like to feel unheard and feel challenged by navigating university. These feelings are what lead her to her goal running for senate: transforming the relationship between ASUN and the students it represents.
Mikayla's goal is to make ASUN more accessible and connected by encouraging more student involvement. She wants to ensure every student feels heard, valued, and cared for. Advocating for students and creating an environment where students feel supported and empowered is something Mikayla is extremely passionate about. Through outreach and collaboration, she hopes to create a more connected campus where UNR students feel entitled to take a more active role, engage, and speak up to shape their experience at UNR. Whether it is encouraging students to show up to events, having surveys distributed to students, or simply asking students verbally- she would love to hear students' feedback to be able to understand what she as a senator can do to improve the school.
UNR is at its peak when everyone works together. Mikayla is dedicated to working with other colleges to bridge the gap and create a more unified campus where everyone- no matter who they are- feels at home.
