Bio and Platform: Keian Benavente is a first-year, first generation student majoring in Secondary Education and English. He was born and raised on the island of Guam and now lives in Las Vegas. Keian is running to be your next College of Education and Human Development Senator. Keian values accessibility, transparency, and community building. He believes that elected officials should be both available and empathetic to constituents, fighting for their needs and working hard to lessen the burdens that come in college.
Keian is currently a part of the Argenta Hall Leadership Council, serving as Vice President. In this role, he works to build community in his residence hall by planning events that heighten student engagement and foster a sense of belonging. He believes community building is important in order to help students feel supported as they pursue their future goals.
Serving in various leadership roles throughout high school, such as Secretary and Historian in his Student Council, Keian understands the work that goes into leadership and working to serve others. Translating his skills in organization, planning, and initiative, Keian will bring the attitude and energy needed to make a change.
As Senator, Keian will listen to the concerns of the student body and advocate for their best interests by adopting four main objectives.
1. Affordability, so that education is made more accessible, students are aware of the different fees they are paying, and students can focus on academics over financial barriers.
2. Transparency, so that students are aware of the active issues occurring on campus and in the know about policies that will directly impact them.
3. Community, by encouraging student engagement in campus events and providing more opportunities for students to voice their opinions on the activities they would like to see.
4. Workforce development, to ensure students are seeing accessible opportunities for real world experience alongside the education they receive at the university.
As a future educator, Keian values public service and improving today to build a greater tomorrow for future generations. In working on the issues that students face, Keian will fight to help students be heard, recognized, and involved. Through his upbringing in Guam, Keian understands firsthand how a lack of opportunities and resources can inhibit students from achieving their dreams. He looks forward to fighting for the students of Nevada, supporting them in not just their pursuits but also their overall wellbeing and access to supportive resources.
Vote for Keian, the key to a stronger Nevada!
