Bio and Platform: Gael is a first-year engineering student who is committed to becoming a strong and reliable voice for students during a volatile period marked by major changes within the Nevada System of Higher Education. With tuition projected to rise by roughly twelve percent, this change will affect every student across the University of Nevada-Reno no matter their background or circumstances. He believes it is more important than ever for students to have representatives who understand the changes and the impacts they may have including the risk of students being discouraged from pursuing a higher education. Gael is committed to passionately advocating for all students affected by these decisions and to ensure that their concerns are not only heard by university leaders in ways that drive real change.
Being new to the university, Gael has already seen firsthand the challenges students navigate every day. Engineering, like many STEM majors, is known for its demanding workload, high material costs, and limited flexibility, making affordability and transparency essential to their success. Gael is dedicated to pushing for clearer explanations of every fee and charge students encounter, believing that transparency builds trust and empowers students to make informed decisions about their education and leads to greater academic success.
If elected Senator, Gael will strengthen the connection between ASUN, university leadership, and the rest of the students being represented by ASUN. He is committed to amplifying student voices, improving communication, and ensuring that students are represented and taken into account prior to major decisions being made by university leadership. Gael’s ultimate goal is to create trust between ASUN and the ability to ensure the interests of current students and future students are being protected.
