Bio and Platform: Abigail (Abby) Castro (she/her) is ecstatic to be running for the Senate seat for the School of Social Work. She wants to act as a liaison to best represent the School of Social Work, to support and address student needs.

Her biggest passions include the need for inclusivity and student wellness. She is committed to be an advocate for all races, genders, religions, abilities, or disabilities, so that all identities have equitable representation on campus. This would be through implementing educational resources to destigmatize and promote the voices of minority groups and underrepresented students within our campus community, as well as promoting a diverse and inclusive campus environment through advocating for policies that further prevent discrimination and harassment.

Her goals include creating and implementing policies in support of students’ physical and mental well being, in the form of increased access and awareness to mental health resources on campus, and promoting the enhancement of student safety through self-defense and other safety courses offered by the University.

Through this Senate position, she hopes to promote community development by encouraging constituents to participate in on-campus organizations, such as through clubs and other relevant groups. She hopes that in her role, she will endorse the growth and success of student passions and interests.

In addition, she would promote community engagement through establishing positive connections with the campus community, as well as providing opportunities for collaboration that strengthen the relationship between students and their representatives within the ASUN government.
