Bio and Platform: Christieanne Fernandez, a first-year student from Las Vegas, majoring in Public Health running to be your School of Public Health Senator. Christieanne believes in health equity, prevention-based approaches, student health, and access to opportunities. She is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that students in the School of Public health have access to the resources they need to succeed as students.
She is involved in the Nevada Filipino Club and the Pre-Physician Assistant Club where she volunteers with underserved communities to support diversity and healthcare inclusivity. Christieanne believes that inclusivity is necessary for a healthcare system and student government that works for us all. She plans to listen to the voices of underrepresented students on campus and bring their interests to the forefront of the Senate’s mission.
As a senator, Christieanne plans to prioritize and advocate students’ access to health and educational resources by achieving four goals.
1. Organizing free medical supply drives, so that students are supplied with the tools such as masks, first-aid kits, and hand sanitizer that they need to live a happy and healthy life at the University.
2. Supporting free vaccinations on campus by writing legislation to provide access to necessary medical procedures.
3. Increasing student awareness about resources provided by ASUN such as Pack Provisions, so that students do not have to worry about food insecurity.
4. Hosting tabling events for underrepresented communities to shine light on health concerns and inequities in order for ASUN to incorporate the voices of all students into its decisions.
As a future health care professional, Christieanne is committed to being responsive to the needs of our community and making sure that all have an equal chance to succeed. Because of her experience volunteering in healthcare settings, she understands the needs of our campus community, and how she can best serve them as a Senator. Her outreach to the communities that she is a part of shows that she is attuned to how to best serve UNR. Christieanne is dedicated to making sure that the students of UNR are seen, heard, and represented.
