Bio and Platform: Jake is a mechanical engineering major at the University of Nevada, Reno and a lifelong Reno native who graduated from Reno High School. Growing up in the Reno community and continuing his education at UNR has given Jake a strong appreciation for the university’s role in shaping student success and regional growth. He is running to serve as an Engineering Senator for ASUN to ensure engineering students are effectively and equally represented in student government.
Jake’s platform emphasizes academic advocacy, student accessibility, and professional development. He believes engineering students deserve transparent and consistent representation when decisions are made regarding curriculum rigor, advising quality, lab resources, and workload expectations. As senator, he aims to advocate for expanded tutoring availability, improved access to modernized laboratory equipment, and academic support systems that recognize the demanding nature of engineering programs.
Career readiness is another central focus of Jake’s platform. He supports strengthening partnerships between the university and industry to increase access to internships, research opportunities, and full-time employment. Jake also believes student fees should be allocated responsibly and transparently, with a clear emphasis on initiatives that directly enhance students’ academic and professional experiences.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Jake holds a leadership role within a fraternity on campus, where he has developed strong skills in organization, accountability, and representing the interests of others. This experience has reinforced his commitment to collaboration, effective communication, and service-oriented leadership.
Jake is also passionate about fostering greater collaboration among engineering disciplines and encouraging student involvement across campus. He is dedicated to listening to student concerns, advocating for practical solutions, and working with university leadership to improve the overall experience for engineering students at the University of Nevada, Reno.
