Josh Horvath

Position: Reynolds School of Journalism (1 Senate Seat)
Email: joshhorvath@unr.edu
Academic College: School of Journalism
Expected Date of Graduation: 05/01/2028
Bio and Platform: Josh Horvath is a Sophomore majoring in Journalism, emphasizing in Film and Media Production. In his free time, he likes to read and write screenplays, as well as make films with his friends.

He’s the first in his family to attend college, and has over half a decade of Journalism experience. He hosted his own interview show and was the lead news anchor for the morning announcements while attending High School.
In just his freshman year of college, he accompanied RSJ faculty to the State Capitol to lobby for the Film Bill & internships for RSJ students with Nevada Lawmakers. He expressed his belief in bringing the film sector to Nevada and creating opportunities for all students

Policies:
As a filmmaker himself, he understands the need for fiscal responsibility. He believes in fiscal responsibility, and is a firm NO on ANY tuition or fee increases. Horvath believes funds already appropriated should be used rather than asking students for more. It’s a matter of directing funds where they belong! He’d especially like to direct more funding to RSJ media like the Nevada Sagebrush and Brushfire, so they have the adequate resources for modern day journalism

The College experience should be felt by everyone, thus he believes in investing in more RSJ specific events, as well as campus wide events. Whether you live on campus or a commuter, in-state or out of state student, Freshman or Senior, you should feel welcome and know you belong on campus. He specifically wants to bring ASUN and RSJ faculty together to create more networking opportunities and events for the RSJ. He fully supports having an ASUN Concert and similar events throughout the year

Affordability is a concern among many students. Horvath hopes to write and collaborate with other senators in a bipartisan manner, on legislation that would help students financially. Whether it’s allocating sufficient funds to the food bank or stopping a fee hike from being passed, Horvath will always be doing his part in making college as affordable as possible

Journalistic Voice:
As a journalist, he will bring a unique journalistic perspective to the senate. He will get answers, he will ask the right questions, he will find out the why’s and how’s. Horvath will bring an experience to the senate that will help improve legislation and students lives by simply being the journalist he’s always been

Transparency:
The Reynolds School of Journalism needs a senator who’s visible and doing work, not someone who hides in the shadows. Horvath will be the transparency that the RSJ has utterly needed. Outreach with Students and Faculty will never be an issue. He will always be open to talking to his constituents, as well as RSJ Faculty and anyone else who seeks him out
