Bio and Platform: Ken Bhardwaj is a sophomore studying Neuroscience and Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, and currently serves as a Senator for the College of Science. He believes representation works best when students understand how decisions are made, where to find information, and how their concerns move from conversation to action.
Throughout his term, Ken has worked on initiatives and legislation focused on access to essential student resources and transparency in academic costs.
Most recently, Ken and the other College of Science senators have been directly involved in the College of Science Lab Coat Donation Program, which will redistribute cleaned lab coats to students during its inaugural year. He also authored S.B.R. 93: A Resolution Supporting Transparency in the Use of Laboratory Course Fees, which encourages instructors and administrators to clearly communicate what required lab fees fund and how those costs directly support students’ coursework.
Additionally, Ken helped develop a College of Science Canvas page to centralize communication between students, faculty, and senators, improving access to information about academic resources, events, and college-wide updates.
Looking ahead, Ken’s priorities include helping formalize and expand the Lab Coat Donation Program, making academic costs clearer, and reducing unnecessary barriers to course materials. By focusing on solutions that can be scaled and sustained, Ken aims to ensure College of Science students see lasting improvements in how resources are accessed and how decisions affecting their academics are made.
The University of Nevada, Reno is entering a period of increased financial pressure following a recent decision to raise tuition, adding new strain for many students navigating the cost of their education. During times like these, students benefit most from representation that prioritizes transparency and practical support. Ken’s work centers on ensuring College of Science students are informed, supported, and represented through clear communication and sustained follow-through.
