Bio and Platform: Mari Nava is a first-generation student and Reno native pursuing a triple major in Political Science, Philosophy, and International Affairs. An active member of the Wolf Pack, Nava serves as an Honors Ambassador and competes with Mock Trial Team A and Is part of the Latino Pre-Law Association. Her passion for law was ignited by the "We the People" program, where she ranked 5th nationally and engaged with federal judges and Senators.
These experiences solidified her pre-law focus on immigration reform and constitutional issues and inspired her to run for student leadership. Nava wants to prioritize three main pillars: Safety, Transparency, and Expansion.
Safety, Nava advocates for free access to protection resources. To combat risks during the "Red Zone period," she will fight for regulated and free self-defense tools and classes to ensure every student feels secure on campus.
Transparency,Accountability is at the forefront of Nava’s platform. Amidst talk of tuition increases, she will ensure students are informed about how their money is spent. She proposes clearer legislative updates and a university-wide newsletter system modeled after The Honors Record.
Expansion, The Honors College is expanding, and with talks about an honors fee for future honors students, Nava wants to ensure that money is spent on improving the honors experience. As an Honors Ambassador, Nava recognizes the need for more major-specific courses, particularly for underrepresented fields like Education. She pledges to ensure that any potential honors fees are reinvested strictly into expanding student opportunities and career-focused academic experiences.
