Bio and Platform: Trent Wilson is a second-year student in the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Reno, pursuing a degree in Finance with strong interests in entrepreneurship, applied analytics, and professional development. Raised in Las Vegas and educated in academically demanding environments, Trent arrived at UNR focused on turning education into opportunity. His academic goals include building deep financial, accounting, and data skills that prepare students for competitive careers in business, finance, and emerging technology-driven industries successfully.
Trent’s platform is centered on career readiness, expanded opportunity, and strengthening existing student success programs within the College of Business. He believes UNR already has powerful foundations in place, and his goal is to expand and improve them so more students can benefit. A key policy goal is to expand access and participation in established entrepreneurial initiatives, including the Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition and the $50,000 Venture Competition, by increasing awareness, simplifying entry points, and connecting students earlier to mentorship and resources. Trent believes these programs should not only exist, but actively reach students in their first and second years.
He also advocates for expanded internship pipelines, stronger employer partnerships, and increased support for professional development programs that give students real-world experience before graduation. Trent supports increased funding and visibility for business-focused student organizations, ensuring students can build leadership, technical, and communication skills outside the classroom.
Additionally, Trent promotes the responsible use of modern tools, such as financial modeling platforms and data analytics, to help students stay competitive in a rapidly evolving job market.
