Proud to Be API: Spotlight #4

Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2021

My name is Joshua Chang. My major is Electrical Engineering, this is my last semester at UNR. My proudest achievements were made in the art stairwell under the alias of Khan Artwork. I am continuing my work with that now, focusing on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

What does your identity mean to you?
I hold my identity as a Chinese-American close to me. The values of kindness, empathy and generosity were instilled in me growing up which made sharing my culture and understanding other people’s cultures easy for me;I find that sharing food is the best way to do this. For someone to warm up to you it’s easier with a bowl of noodle soup in front of them. My identity in that way has introduced me to so many more things and people and in that way it’s how I view the world.

How has your experience at Nevada been and how has it shaped your identity?
My time at Nevada helped me realize that art was all I wanted to do. It was the friends that I have made and kept that inspired me to pursue art and made me proud to be who I am. I see a bit of them in every piece I do and I want to make them proud as well.
